Scripture: Psalm 42:1–2a
Artist Statement
Thirst for God draws inspiration from the imagery of Psalm 42, where the deer’s longing for water mirrors the soul’s longing for God. The deer is known for its ability to sense water from a distance and to move toward it with determination until it drinks and is satisfied. This natural instinct becomes a spiritual metaphor for the human heart—created with an awareness of God and drawn toward Him even in seasons of dryness.
This painting reflects the truth that God is the ultimate source of life and fulfillment. Just as water sustains the deer, God sustains the soul with peace, strength, direction, and renewal. Yet fulfillment is found in nearness. The painting invites the viewer to consider the posture of pursuit—to respond to spiritual thirst by drawing closer to God rather than remaining distant.
In the presence of God, the thirsty soul finds rest and satisfaction. He is not merely a need among many, but the source in whom all needs are met.
